For those interested in game design...

Postby ArrothThaiel » Mon Mar 27, 2017 4:06 pm

A guy who posts as Rhykker on YouTube has an interesting interview with one of the designers behind Diablo II, David Brevik. They specifically get into the differences between 2D and 3D game building and how much difficultly there can be in taking something built in 2D and moving it to 3D.

In watching this, all I could think of was UO.

Anyway, interesting if you're into behind the scenes game design stuff.

The interview starts at 3:17 and ends at 10:15.

Another classic example is the transition The Legend of Zelda had when they made Ocarina of Time. You can keep the game feel and ideas, but the mechanics have to be reworked for the new environment. Third Dawn is an example of the wrong method to making a 3D game out of a 2D one.
