JC, you provided a very good UO source for so much years. Of course it was also the contribution of other people, but without you it would be nothing.

Stratics UO source was down for a very long time. I mean, every time I visited stratics in the last couple of years, I was just fowarded to the forums. Maybe I was just too stupid to find their old resources. But I knew how to find answers on UOGuide.

From my side, it is just more than obvious that stratics is doing shady things.

UO. Com also did not have any good resources for a very very very very long time ... but they schould get in touch with you and give you (and all contributers) credit for the wiki. This would be the correct direction, that they get all the old information, can review them and maybe merge new articles.

Everything else does not make sense. It is a nice map feature from stratics, but thats it ... this is again just a scripted import from the UOAutoMap app. (Or whatever app is currently working)
Everything else also depends now on the amount of contribution in the 3 wikis (UOGuide, UO.com, stratics).

I stand up for UOGuide until UO.com gets their stuff straight and gives credit to UOGuide.

Cheers

I took a quick look. Those tools appear to be for converting documents to wiki format. So if the text was bold it will bold the text in the wiki format.

I did not see anything about creating inter-wiki links. I would love to see what conversation software does that.

The following was posted today by a Stratics moderator:
Stratics Staff wrote:What you refer to as "copy and paste" is both UOGuide and Stratics BOTH copying official UO sources. That's before going into things like there only being a finite number of ways to say some things.

That's how wikis WORK. They copy WORD FOR WORD information from recognized official sources, then (are supposed to, but often skipped for brevity) cite the source in the footnotes. 60-90% of the information in UOGuide is taken word for word from various incarnation of UO.COM, newsletters, dev statements on Stratics and other forums, etc. In fact, not being word for word is often used by really tyrannical wiki owners to remove new contributions (not talking ANY of the UO wikis here, but dealing with wikis for various TV shows - one group of idiots running a wiki on an anime refuses to let contributors cite the SHOW ITSELF, only written or official internet sources).

So basically he is saying since UOGuide's information came from UO.com it is okay for them to copy it. This just keeps reaching new levels of absurdity.

No one is disputing them copying information from UO.com. What is in dispute is taking all the formatting, additional text, organization, etc. that UOGuide contibutors took to make pages for UOGuide, and putting that on Stratics. Each publish page can take 15-60 minutes to edit. But it only takes 10 seconds to copy and paste.

If UOGuide did this to Stratics I would probably never be able to do anything with UO ever again. But Stratics does it and "thats how wikis are supposed to work!" The double standard here is out of this world. I can't believe people are still trying to defend what Stratics is doing.

Pages are obviously being copied from UOGuide. Let's not kid ourselves. IMO that's not a good start for their wiki. It shows a lack of dedication and I don't see their project lasting very long.

I used this site on a daily basis when I played regularly. I have taken a few years off and am starting to play again. Trying to play catch up with all the new items and quests is really starting to become a nightmare. Between stratics and UOguide and the information on the broadsword site, I spend more time trying to figure out how to do something. If stratics is copying the data from UO Guide without your permission that is just kind of wrong. As long as I have been using your site today is the first time I have created an account. I will try to contribute as time permits.

It's so shady what they do, but what can you expect from those people. Im keeping an eye on the recent changes, but even the little interest from people in the beginning seems to be lost. It appears that they don't have someone willing to put content in it (aka the hard work part), apart from Brian adding some useless rares.

On the other hand we all learned how quick Brian can be to send out legal craptalk, so I am even more discouraged to contribute there. You never know what those hobby forum lawyers come up with in a heated moment ;)

And lastly the whole thing just screams 'self-adulation'. It's not even UO on the top of the navigation - it's Stratics past and current staff and history. Just vaunting themselfs. Open up the front page of the wiki and you won't find any info on UO but tons of crap how great Stratics is because they provide a wiki now.

Not even talking about how the styling is out of place and how it's not even working on mobile. I think there is no point in even giving them feedback when they can't see those obvious things.

Oh, like how they copied UOGuide's blightborn slime entry with the exact info on UO Guide, just with different table orientation and automatic "average" calculations? That's my point of comparison because it was, IIRC, the first monster entry I did for UOGuide.

They couldn't even convert some things properly, like those slimes always spawning with 100% poison resist.

That part I quoted is admission that 10%-40% of their content (an awfully BIG range, don't we think?) comes from everywhere BUT official sources and their own forums.
